Eclipse Word-Wrap
See release 0.0.1 blog entry for details.
To install Virtual Word Wrap use update manager url in eclipse: http://ahtik.com/eclipse-update/
For more detailed review and installation instructions please see this forum entry.
Happy wrapping and don’t forget about the feedback!
Warning! Current alpha-version of Virtual Word Wrap does not work properly with line numbers, line highlight etc! But this error is just temporary – after turning wrap off you should have everything back to normal.

What a pity! Unfortunately this is not working with phpeclipse. phpeclipse has its own linesplitting feature, but this adds also additional line numbers.
But anyway thx for your work!

Does any one know something similar that works in PHPEclipse?

will there be another version with better line number handling features?
PLEASE!

jackoozie: It’s a complex issue but I have not given up on that. But no solution in short-term.. Easier new features could be keyboard shortcut and file-type-dependant auto on-off etc.
Karuna: sry no idea. I wonder why this doesn’t work with PHPEclipse, I’m not too familiar with its internals but in theory shouldn’t be too different…

Contacted Zend Studio.
They said the Eclipse community prefers to have big screens rather than wrap-folding.
I don’t know what they mean by big screens as I got Dual View 1920 x 1200 and I still appreciate this feature.
The second explanation I received was that it wasn’t planned from the start when creating the Eclipse project and it is quiet difficult to implement wrap coding at this stage without breaking codes all around on plug-ins and features. I think this one is closer from the truth.

I love the justification that the Eclipse community prefers it without the wrap. It’s a fundamental requirement of text editors.
Thanks for this feature. I just want to be able to edit text files without adding artificial newlines just so I can read them. It does this for me.

the blog for more advanced installation instructions you link to the sceenshots are broken, meaning there is no explanation of how to configure the plugin..

Did you meant http://www.eclipsezone.com/eclipse/forums/t74384.html ? This link works for me, please try again!

This link is better:
http://ahtik.com/blog/2006/06/18/first-alpha-of-eclipse-word-wrap-released/
The other link, which Steve meant, is indeedly with broken screenshots.
But this tool is nice even with this linenumberbug. Thank you.

you are the man! Thank you for the time you put into this. I would love Eclipse but the lack of word wrap does it in for me. Sometimes we have to type large paragraphs of text in and don’t want to manually line-break it.
You’re awesome
